The Old American Golf Club Announces Nick Baker As Executive Chef

(THE COLONY, Tex.) – The Old American Golf Club – designed by Tripp Davis and PGA TOUR star Justin Leonard – announces Nick Baker as the new executive chef for its Old American Grill in The Carriage House clubhouse.

Baker comes to Old American from The Great Wolf Lodge where he was executive chef. Previously he was Bridlewood Golf Club’s executive chef for 12 years, personal chef for the President of Mitsubishi North America, and worked for several years in New York for the Rockefeller family and Roosevelt Property. He graduated with honors from the Culinary Institute of America (New York).

Old American Grill features all fresh, local produce and meats sourced by the chef. The menu includes revolving items based on member and guest feedback and boasts innovative creations fusing Southwestern, Texas and Americana cuisine. Read more »

Old American Golf Club to host U.S. Open Qualifier

THE COLONY, Texas – Old American Golf Club will host a local qualifying tournament on May 19 for the upcoming 2014 U.S. Open to be held at Pinehurst Resort & C.C. (June 12 – 15).

Thousands of golfers from around the world annually pursue the chance to play in the U.S. Open Championship. Local qualifying takes place this year at 111 sites across the country from May 2 – 19. Each local qualifier consists of 18 holes, with several players, determined by the size of the field, advancing to sectional qualifying over 36 holes at 10 U.S. sites on June 2.

Old American – a pure golf experience from award-winning architect Tripp Davis and PGA TOUR player Justin Leonard – should prove to be a tough test for those seeking to advance. Darling Homes to Enter The Tribute Fall 2014

(February 24, 2014—The Colony, TX)  Matthews Southwest (www.matthewssouthwest.com) announced today that Darling Homes intends to acquire 32 lots in Phase II of The Glen, one of several villages within The Tribute Lakeside Golf & Resort, located in The Colony, Texas, which includes two world-class golf courses.  Matthews Southwest will break ground on the lots this month and home sites will be available in fall of 2014.

Jack Matthews, president of Matthews Southwest, stands near land to be developed in the coming years. The company intends to expand the number of homes in The Tribute upscale residential community.

While development in The Colony is most visible on its southern edge near Sam Rayburn Tollway, the city is preparing years in advance for expected population growth on the opposite end: the Wynnwood peninsula.

Set apart geographically from the heart of the city, the Wynnwood area is home to The Tribute residential community, two of the city’s three golf courses, and room for residential and commercial growth near the shores of Lewisville Lake.

(November 1, 2013—The Colony, TX) Matthews Southwest announced today that Meritage Homes has acquired 55 acres of land in The Tribute Lakeside Golf & Resort located in The Colony, Texas. Meritage plans to develop 178 homesites over the next three years in The Tribute’s newest neighborhood, called Stonehaven, just south of Lebanon at Boyd Road.

The Tribute celebrates Grand Opening of Shoreline Nature Trail

The Colony, TX-(October 26, 2013) A Fall Festival and Ribbon Cutting ceremony was held to celebrate the Grand Opening of The Tribute Shoreline Nature Trail in The Colony.

Jack Matthews, president of Matthews Southwest; David Terre, Place 4 Councilman of The Colony; and Joe McCourry, Mayor of The Colony cut the ribbon and officially opened The Tribute Shoreline Nature Trail.

Jack Matthews, President of Mathews Southwest, the developer of The Tribute Lakeside Golf & Resort master planned community, hosted the ceremony along with The Colony Mayor Joe McCourry and Councilman David Terre.

The ribbon cutting  and dedication celebration was accompanied by a community Fall Festival which included a Scavenger Hunt on the trail, carnival games and prizes, birds of prey exhibit, pumpkin painting, food, a bike valet, music, and kayak and stand up paddleboard demonstrations. Over 300 Tribute residents and city officials were in attendance. Read more »

Little Elm ISD unveils Middle School Academies, School Choice

The Little Elm ISD is providing exciting new options for students, and as a result parents will gain even more input for their students though a new “School Choice” program. More specifically, next year students entering grades 6 through 8 and for students who wish to attend the K-5 program at the STEM Academy will soon make their selection for 2014-2015.

“Giving our parents more choice in their student’s education is part of our mission,” said Lynne Leuthard, superintendent of schools. “We want our students to be completely engaged in instruction. By teaching the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) framed in a student’s interest, we believe our students will thrive.”

Two academies will be housed at Lakeside Middle School and one will be focused on the Fine Arts/Humanities and the other on Public Service next year. The third middle school academy will be the middle school portion of the new K-8 STEM Academy the district currently has under construction in The Tribute. Read more »
