Taylor Morrison Debuts First Community in DFW After Darling Homes Acquisition

Waterford Point at The Tribute Targets Active Living

(February 27, 2017--The Colony) Matthews Southwest announced today that Taylor Morrison, a leading national builder and developer, has debuted its newest village in The Tribute Lakeside Golf & Resort Community, located in The Colony, Texas. This is one of only two Taylor Morrison branded community in the DFW market since acquiring Darling Homes in late 2012. The grand opening of its sales center and four models began on February 11th in Waterford Point with homes from the $330s. The village targets buyers seeking anactive lifestyle in an established resort community.

"Taylor Morrison is a natural fit for The Tribute,” said Jack Matthews, president of Matthews Southwest and the developer of The Tribute. “Many of the homes in Waterford Point will be situated along the lakefront on the west side of the peninsula and Taylor Morrison has created beautiful designs that embrace the vision and high standards of our community.”

Waterford Point will offer 405 homes with 109 in the first phase. Four distinct collections of single-story homes feature spacious family rooms and kitchens, vaulted ceilings and outdoor living areas, as well as guest suites and optional second story bonus areas in the larger floor plans. Many homes built on the larger homesites will feature lakefront views. Lot sizes within the entire Waterford Point village range from 48 to 76 feet, and pricing starts from the $330s. Keep reading.

Prestwick STEM Academy Wins Prestigious ULI North Texas Impact Award

(April 4, 2016 – Dallas, TX) Little Elm ISD’s Prestwick K-8 STEM Academy, located within The Tribute development in The Colony, won the Urban Land Institute’s Impact Award for Influence last Tuesday evening.

The 2nd annual Impact Awards ceremony, recognizing competitive urban design and project development in four categories: Innovation, Influence, Public Places and The Next Big Idea,was held on Tuesday, March 29. The sold-out event for 700 people took place at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in the Chantilly Ballroom.

“A big congratulations to our Impact Awards winners – Prestwick STEM Academy, Old Parkland Campus, Tarrant County College Trinity East Campus and North Texas to Houston High Speed Rail,” said Michael Jackson, board chair of the Urban Land Institute’s North Texas Council.

The Influence Award is presented to a project, policy or program that creates a positive impact beyond its immediate borders or catalyzes the development of the surrounding community, resulting in a lasting effect on the built environment. In addition, the Influence Award often recognizes successful public/private collaboration leading to influential result, is the first of its kind and a positive impact in the market area. Spotlight On: Lowell H. Strike, Ph.D. Superintendent of Schools, Little Elm Independent School District

Please briefly describe your career path. What led you to this position?

I served as a teacher and coach for 11 years in Iowa before moving to College Station, TX where I obtained my Masters and Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Texas A&M. Prior to arriving in Little Elm ISD I served in roles as middle school principal in Brownfield, TX and Bryan, TX. I had the privilege of opening Cinco Ranch High in Katy, TX as the first principal. Cinco Ranch is among the best high schools in Texas. I moved into central administration in Katy ISD as an Executive Director and then to Northwest ISD as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, to Southlake Carroll ISD as Associate Superintendent, and finally to Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD as Deputy Superintendent. I was contacted by some area residents as well as one former LEISD employee and encouraged to apply for the Superintendent’s position when it opened up. Continue reading...
